We are seeking to appoint an outstanding curriculum leader and teacher of Science, with a strong background in Chemistry and Physics, to the position of Head of Science (Physical Sciences). The position commences in Term 1, 2010.

The Head of Physical Sciences is responsible for providing educational leadership in the Science learning area. The appointee will have an excellent understanding of the Science curriculum from Years 8 to 10 and a strong background in the physical sciences in the Senior School years. He or she will possess excellent organisational skills to plan and prioritise within the area of responsibility. As a school and curriculum leader, the Head of Physical Sciences will provide professional leadership to specialist subject teachers and others in the school who teach within the area of responsibility, including the provision of up-to-date information of relevant specialist curriculum issues.
The Head of Physical Science requires strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with all members of the school community in order to facilitate the achievement of the school goals. There is a need for liaison with students, parents and other stakeholders, and a considerable focus is placed on the provision of advice for students and parents about appropriate course options and selections. Extensive liaison occurs with the Principal and Deputy Principals of the school, other Heads of learning areas and relevant specialist staff. In addition to administration, the Head of Physical Sciences has a significant role in teaching and in the daily management of staff and student well-being in Science.

- Contributing to the development of the school plan;
- Establishing and managing administrative and operational systems;
- Liaising with students and parents of students studying in the area of responsibility;
