2022 Gold Coast Volleyball Tour

For the first time since 2019 our Specialist Volleyball students were back travelling to compete at the highest level in Australia at the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup.
Six Rossmoyne teams including 59 students, 4 staff and 12 volunteer coaches set off on December 3 for the Gold Coast, and here’s how it went…

After a couple of days to settle in and train the competition started on Monday December 5, and continued through to finals day on Saturday December 10.

Rossmoyne teams competed in the higest division of the Year 9 (Boys), Year 9 (Girls), Year 10 (Boys), Year 10(Girls), Open (Boys) and Open (Girls) competitions.

Our six teams played more than 60 games across the tournament, and each of our team experienced highs and lows of wins and losses.
Under extreme pressure, our students upheld Rossmoyne spirit – celebrating the highs and developing their resiliency, leadership and collaboration skills through the lows.
The team work, respect and sportsmanship displayed all week was a credit to those involved.

The support and encouragement shown throughout the tournament by the students was a tour highlight, along with:

  • Year 9 Girls Silver Medal win.
  • Rossmoyne placed 6th overall out of more than 130 competing schools.
  • Rossmoyne alumni Biancka Morton and Chelsea McNeill were recognised for their 10 Year Service Awards.
  • Australian rules footballer and Rossmoyne alumni Dave Swallow gave our Open teams a guided tour of the Suns facility.

A huge thank you to the staff and volunteers who helped make the tour happen in very challenging conditions at times.

The culture of the Volleyball Program with former students donating so much of their time and energy into giving back can not be undervalued.
The connection it fosters to the school is amazing.

Way to go Rossy!
