In the first week of the winter school holidays, 41 Senior School HASS students and 4 teachers embarked on a week-long tour of sights of importance to Australian history, politics and economics. Starting the tour in Sydney, we visited the Reserve Bank of Australia, the Maritime Museum, and like all good tourists saw the iconic Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, as well as Taronga Zoo. Rossmoyne SHS is now officially a member of the PASCH Initiative! We signed the official memorandum of understanding between Rossmoyne and the Goethe Institut, who will be working closely with us to further promote and support the teaching and learning of German here at Rossmoyne. For our students, this will provide access to additional competitions, resources and opportunities to travel to Germany, to participate in intensive language and culture studies. Congratulations to Wendi Zeng, one of our Year 12 Art students. Wendi was awarded first place in the prestigious Shaun Tan Award on Monday evening. Wendi's artwork 'Tranquillity' depicts four small landscapes painted in acrylic on board. Each piece depicts a different scene from Western Australia and each work is given a different treatment to represent a different time of day and a different season.
Well done to our Year 8, 9, 11 and 12 dancers at the South of the Swan Dance Festival earlier this week. Our dancers showcased works in jazz, contemporary and hip hop.
Our Year 10, 11 and 12 dancers recently performed at the Nexus showcase. The Nexus was hosted by the Dance Alliance, which is made up of Rossmoyne SHS, Shenton College, Churchlands SHS and Balcatta SHS. Our dancers performance was exceptional, well done.
8 of our Year 9 Financial Management students recently participated in the Illuminate: Nextgen Challenge at Murdoch University. The challenge was to design a social enterprise that operates locally, providing goods and services to paying customers, while also supporting a need in the region. Our students ended up winning the 'Best Pitch Deck Presentation Award'. Well done team Up Plastic Co!
Well done to Anna Bullard who will represent Australia in the International Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition in China this October, after winning the national competition over the weekend. Well done also to Dayle D'Mello, who placed second.
Our Year 12 art student Jennice Chen won the Marshall Arts Award for originality/innovative thought and use of material at the recent Atwell Youth Arts Awards. Well done Jennice.
