AQUAPONICS EDUCATION
“Aquaponics” is a sustainable farming technique that brings together “aquaculture” (the farming of fish) and “hydroponics” (growing plants without soil). In this system, fish waste provides nutrients for plants, and in turn, the plants filter the water, creating a closed-loop, symbiotic environment.
Aquaponics WA and Hydroponic Xpress enjoyed working with Mr McRedmond and the students from the Rossy Bushrangers group. This lesson was about making sure the grow beds were clean for the plants and introducing the Silver Perch into the fish tank. A lot of progress has been made this term for students to experience real world learning in cultivating a healthy and productive ecosystem.
