About the Specialist Volleyball Program
How the program works from Year 7 to Year 12
The Specialist Volleyball Program offers high level training in both indoor volleyball and beach volleyball.
In Year 7, Rossmoyne Senior High School volleyballers develop their skills for higher level participation concurrently with the regular Physical Education program. Students also receive special before-school tuition in volleyball, get opportunities to compete in the WA Volleyball League, and attend a two-day development camp.
In Year 8, Rossmoyne volleyballers attend dedicated volleyball classes and have the chance to travel to the Gold Coast to compete at the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup.
In Year 11 and Year 12, volleyball students have the opportunity to study a sports science course, using their volleyball experiences to contribute towards their Western Australian Certificate of Education.
All students have access to state-of-the-art beach volleyball courts, indoor volleyball courts, and strength and conditioning facilities. They regularly represent the school in competitions in both Perth and the Gold Coast, and also enjoying opportunities to gain referee and coaching accreditations.
Program success and extracurricular opportunities
Rossmoyne Senior High School has held the title of ‘top volleyball school in WA’ since 1992, and in 2022 the Rossmoyne’s interschool teams placed fourth nationally at the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup. Alumni have included 45 Australian Team players, and two Olympians.
The culture is strong within the Rossmoyne volleyball community with many alumni giving back to the program in coaching and mentoring roles. The Volleyball Parents Support Group (VPS) supports the school’s Volleyball Specialist Program and includes fundraising for events and tours.
The school’s outstanding record is owed purely to the Specialist Volleyball Program and the hard work of the participating students. The program is a widely recognised and it is highly regarded by the Western Australian Institute of Sport and Australian Institute of Sport.
With more than 300 students competing at WA Schools’ Cup, WA Junior League and the Australian Volleyball Schools’ Cup, Rossmoyne’s program has developed a state and national reputation for excellence. Many Rossmoyne students also represent Western Australia at the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships and Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Championships each year.
