Technologies at high school
In high school, the study of Technologies develops critical and creative thinking. In Technologies classrooms, students use their imagination, problem-solve, and develop skills that will assist them in life or future career paths.
At Rossmoyne, Technologies includes courses in Digital Technologies, Design and Technologies, Technologies and Society, Engineering Principals and Systems, Food and Fibre Production, Food Specialisations, Materials and Technologies specialisations.
Class structure and opportunities in Technologies
Year 7
All students must complete one semester of a Design and Technology subject, attending the class twice a week.
All students must complete one semester of Digital Technologies, attending the class twice a week.
Year 8
All students must complete one semester of a Design and Technology subject, attending the class twice a week.
All students must complete one semester of Digital Technologies, attending the class twice a week.
Year 9
Students can choose to take one or more Technologies subject in Year 9, they attend each elected subject twice a week.
Year 10
Students can choose to take one or more Technologies subject in Year 10, they attend each elected subject twice a week.
Year 11 and 12
Year 11 and 12 students may choose to study one or more of the below courses and will attend each course four times a week:
- Applied Information technology (ATAR and General)
- Computer Science (ATAR)
- Food Science & Technology (ATAR and General)
- Materials Design & Technology: Wood (General)
- Materials Design & Technology: Metal (General)
Technologies in Years 7 – 10
Technologies taster classes for Years 7
All Years 7 take a Digital Technologies class as well as one of the below Technologies ‘taster’ subjects. Students are automatically placed into a taster class at enrolment.

- Engineering Principals
- Food Technology
- Metal Technology
- Textiles
- Wood Technology
Technologies elective options for Year 8
Year 8 students select one Technologies subject:
- Electronics and Robotics
- Food Technology
- Textiles
- Wood / Metal Technology
Technologies elective options for Year 9
Year 9s can choose any Technologies subject as one or both of their elective options.
Technologies options for Year 9s are:
- Digital Imaging and Animation
- Digital Technologies
- Drawing and Design
- Electronics and Robotics
- Fashion and Fabrics
- Practical Engineering
- Wood / Metal Technology
Technologies elective options for Year 10
Year 10s can choose any Technologies subject as one or all of their elective options.
