Year 8 see students continue to adjust to the new structures of high school and further explore specialised learning areas.

As with all year groups at Rossmoyne Senior High School, the Year 8 curriculum fulfils the requirements of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority and the Department of Education.

The flow of the Year 8 curriculum course structure on from Year 7 is designed to continue the students’ smooth transition.

Year 8 subjects and classes

Year 8 students at Rossmoyne take classes across eight compulsory subjects and also choose elective subjects in Arts and Technologies.

Year 8 compulsory studies

Year 8 students at Rossmoyne Senior High School take classes across eight compulsory subjects:

  • English, or English as Second Language
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)
  • A Language other than English (Japanese, German, Chinese or French – chosen at enrolment)
  • Physical Education or Volleyball
  • Health

Year 8 elective studies

As well as their compulsory studies, Year 8 students choose three (3) additional subjects from a range of electives*.

Students must choose:

  • One (1) performing arts subject:
    • ‘Dance’
    • ‘Drama’
    • ‘Music’
      Note: Year 7 Music students continue with the Music Program into Year 8.
  • One (1) visual arts subject:
    • ‘Digital Photography’
    • ‘Media’
    • ‘Art’
  • One (1) design and technologies subject:
    • ‘Electronics/Robotics’
    • ‘Metal Technology’
    • ‘Wood Technology’
    • ‘Food Technology’
    • ‘Textiles’

* Year 8 elective subject preferences can be submitted online and every effort is made to accommodate student preference.
