
Year 9 Student Pathways
Year 9 see students continue to learn across eight compulsory subjects and enjoy elective subjects.
As with all year groups at Rossmoyne Senior High School, the Year 9 curriculum fulfils the requirements of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority and the Department of Education.
The flow of the Year 9 curriculum course structure on from Year 8 is designed to continue the students’ learning progress.
Year 9 subjects and classes
Year 9 students at Rossmoyne take classes across eight compulsory subjects and also choose elective subjects in Arts, Music, Technologies, Health and Physical Education, or Humanities.
Year 9 compulsory studies
Year 9 students at Rossmoyne Senior High School take classes across eight compulsory subjects:
- English, or English as Second Language
- Mathematics
- Science
- Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)
- A Language other than English (Japanese, German, Chinese or French – chosen at enrolment)
- Physical Education or Volleyball
- Health
Year 9 elective studies
As well as their compulsory studies, Year 9 students choose two (2) additional subjects from a range of electives*:
- Dance
- Drama
- Media
- Music (only available to students continuing with Music from Year 7 and 8)
- Photography
- Visual Art
- Digital Imaging and Animation
- Digital Technologies
- Drawing and Design
- Electronics and Robotics
- Fashion and Fabrics
- Food Technology
- Practical Engineering
- Wood and Metal Technology
- Finance Management
- Outdoor Education
- Volleyball (only available to students within the Specialist Volleyball Program).
*Elective subject preferences can be submitted online and every effort is made to accommodate student preference.
Extension and support
Academic extension and support

Rossmoyne Senior High School’s large student population means the timetable is packed with extra opportunities for learning, connection and engaging in special interest activities. Explore the range of student clubs and groups.
Specialist programs
Rossmoyne Senior High School runs three Specialist Programs in Classical Music, Volleyball and Mathematics. These programs commence in Year 7 but have some late-entry opportunities.
