Land with history and the House names

While Rossmoyne Senior High School sits on the traditional lands of the Noongar people, white settlement meant the lands and suburbs labeled with reference to Scottish landmarks and culture – including the school’s four houses ‘MacNeill’, ‘Barra’, ‘Ross’ and ‘Stewart’. The Rossmoyne Senior High School House System has existed for over 50 years. Read more about the history this land before settlement, and the naming of the school, and the history of the House System.

How the House System works

School culture

The Rossmoyne House System has a cross-curricular focus; aiming to elevate school-pride, enhance peer connection and encourage student engagement with social, sporting, and wellbeing activities.

The system is an integral part of the school culture and plays an important role in reinforcing the schools iCARE values.

House sorting

When students start school at Rossmoyne they are placed into one of the fours school Houses; ‘MacNeill’, ‘Barra’, ‘Ross’ or ‘Stewart’. Students attend Home Room two times a week with peers in the same House from across all year groups, and they remain with this same group of students in Home Room for their whole time at Rossmoyne.

House Captains and House Leaders

A group of elected student leaders from each house are known as ‘House Captains’. The House Captains are champions of the House System, and lead their peers by spreading House Spirit, drumming up house pride, and encouraging all students to be involved in school events.

The House Captains are supported by House Leaders – a team of staff who coordinate the Home Room program.

House coloured uniforms

Students are encouraged to wear their House colours during physical education classes, and during specific school celebrations. Read more about the school uniform.
