VISUAL LITERACY

We had the incredible honour of hosting Aśka—award-winning illustrator, author, and science communicator—at our school. Aśka worked with our Year 9 English Extension students in a dynamic and engaging workshop focused on visual literacy, and it was nothing short of inspiring.
Throughout the session, students explored how images can convey meaning, build narrative tension, and enhance storytelling. Aśka’s energy, humour, and passion for her craft made the workshop not only educational, but also immensely fun. Students were captivated by her insights into the world of graphic novels and illustration, and they enjoyed experimenting with their own visual storytelling skills.
It was a truly rewarding and enriching experience for all involved. We are so grateful to Aśka for sharing her time, knowledge, and creativity with us, and we look forward to seeing how our students’ understanding of visual texts continues to grow.
