JAPANESE STUDENT VISIT

Rossmoyne students from Years 7 to 9 had the opportunity to interact with a group of visiting Japanese students. The Japanese students gave a presentation about their country, engaged in origami activities with our students, and communicated in Japanese. This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to practice speaking and interacting in the language outside of the usual classroom setting. Here is some feedback from the students:
“Everyone is very polite. There are many different games in Japan that we don’t play in Australia; they seem to be more peaceful.”
“Talking with the Japanese students and viewing their presentation helped me understand their culture the most. I also thought that the calligraphy activity was insightful.”
“Their school life is very different from ours.”
“I enjoyed the calligraphy because it seems to hold special cultural significance for Japanese students. In Australia, we don’t typically practice calligraphy.”
“I particularly liked the Japanese name calligraphy because it taught me that Japanese names often have meanings behind them. It was intriguing to see how my own name is spelled and the meaning attached to it.”
