ALUMNI VISIT FOR ENGLISH

Our Year 12 English ATAR students recently welcomed Mr Harrison Reilly, who shared his experiences of living with a hearing impairment and the challenges that are often overlooked.
Through engaging discussions and a hands-on lip-reading activity, students gained valuable insight into the effort required to navigate daily communication with hearing loss. They also learned the importance of being patient when a deaf person asks for something to be repeated and why responding with “never mind” can be frustrating and exclusionary.
The session provided a meaningful connection to their study of Growing Up Disabled in Australia by Carly Findlay and encouraged greater understanding, empathy and inclusion.
Thank you, Mr Reilly, for sharing your experiences with our students.
