WA ARMY MUSEUM VISIT

Year 9 students recently embarked on an enriching excursion to the WA Army Museum, followed by a historic walk through Fremantle to the iconic Roundhouse, delving into key chapters of Australia’s past.
At the WA Army Museum, students explored the profound impact of World War One, particularly the personal effects of war on soldiers and their families. Walking through the historic part of Fremantle highlighted how life changed during the war, including the suspicion and consequences faced by German Australians, which fostered thoughtful discussions on identity and national loyalty.
The visit to the Roundhouse, Western Australia’s oldest public building, offered insights into the state’s colonial foundations, including the penal system and early governance. Students reflected on how colonial structures shaped Fremantle’s development and considered the broader implications for Indigenous communities.
The excursion provided a compelling blend of military history and civic awareness, encouraging students to examine how global events and local policies intersected to shape modern Australia.
