INTERVIEW PRACTICE
In Year 12 (general) Careers & Enterprise class, all students are required to participate in a formalised Panel Interview process as part of the assessment criteria.
We prepare in class and then conduct a mock job interview in front of a panel of three interviewers. The panel consists of a school VET coordinator, a Vice-Principal or the Principal, and a representative from the community group, Soroptimist International.
During the fifteen-minute interview, we are asked questions and have to respond confidently and promote ourselves as though it were a real job interview.
We prepare for the interview in class by studying panel interviews and how to prepare and act in the interview, writing answers to interview questions, practicing them, and finding professional attire to wear for the interview to ensure we knew our information and felt confident. Since almost everyone has to conduct several job interviews throughout their lives, this is a useful practice for real life. The majority of people in society need to find a job in order to support themselves. An interview is often required in order to obtain a job. It is therefore very important to practice this skill at school, as it is an extremely valuable skill for our future.
This is one of the many ways Rossmoyne’s VET program prepares students for the workplace. While it is a lot of work and sometimes nerve-wracking or stressful to do job interviews in school, It is an incredibly valuable skill for our future.
