WHAT DOES ‘GRIT’ MEAN TO A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL?

🩺 Addressing the topic of “grit” a panel of remarkable speakers from the medical industry visited our school this week to share inspiring stories to our student leaders and medical science students. The panel included Warren Pavey, a cardiac anaesthetist and clinician scientist, who shared his expertise in cardiac anaesthesia and research, inspiring perseverance in the medical field.
Agneta Geldenhuys, a cardiac surgeon, discussed the importance of determination and grit in pursuing a medical career. Rebecca Hahn, an intensive care nurse and nurse scientist, highlighted the challenges of working in critical care and the resilience required to thrive in such settings. Colleen Ashby, a heart transplant recipient, shared her personal journey, showcasing the strength and determination needed to overcome health obstacles. We are so very grateful to these incredible speakers for their inspiring stories, leaving our students motivated to cultivate their own resilience.
